Colorado Boating Rules

Boating Safety Courses:
Colorado requires that anyone operating a motorboat, including a personal watercraft, must be at least 16 years old. Persons that are fourteen and fifteen years old must successfully complete a state approved boating safety course to operate a motorboat in Colorado. The Colorado State Parks boating safety course is offered throughout the state and is open to teens and adults. To attend a boating safety course call 303-791-1954.
Boat Registration Information:
In-state boats
Any boat with a motor or sail operated in Colorado on any public waters must be registered with Colorado State Parks. Canoes and kayaks, and other craft that do not require registration must be legibly marked with the name and address of the owner.
Out-of-state boats
Vessels from other states may be operated in Colorado for up to 60 days with a current registration from the owner’s state.
